This was for the Bring Your Type to Life Contest. It totally transformed from what my original piece was into something more illustrative, but I figured "why the hell not?" and submitted it anyway. I hope to get another submission done that is exclusively typography.
This is based off a Helen Keller quote (yes, I love Helen Keller, so sue me.) It's from her point of view as she first learned the word for 'water,' the first time she realized that objects have names.
The contest was 'Bring Your Type to Life' and I thought the quote was appropriate. Typography is synonymous with words, which for Helen Keller, was such a revolutionary idea that she felt it brought her to life. Later on in life she did some amazing things, so In short, I'm glad for that little spark that made her into who she became.
This is beautiful. I kind of thought "your type" referred to a race (fantastic/fantasy), at first. Thought there's some kind of fantastic creature on the thumbnail.
